The Midway Farms “Farm Experience Camp” provides your child with the opportunity to develop character, learn valuable life skills, make new friends, and discover new interests, all while experiencing real life on a biodiverse local family farm.

Midway Farms has a gluten free summer camp available for grade school-aged children. A gluten free menu will always be served; the Kapple family, which owns Midwary Farms, suffer from Celiac Disease and are incredibly conscious and concerned with the health of all those with gluten intolerance and Celiac Disease.

The Camp’s Daily Routine:
*From 10:00 to 10:30 am there will be a structured morning routine during which time the cows, ponies, chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese will be fed and watered. Eggs will also be collected.
*At 10:30 am a snack fitting the day’s activities will be provided.
*Afternoons begin with lunch at 12:00 noon. After lunch, a less-structured afternoon will occur, during which time there will be reflection and review of the day’s lesson through art projects and free time.
*Campers will be provided with log books to write and/or draw pictures about their learning and various experiences.

CDF Conference

Three days, the happiest place on earth and the latest in celiac disease research.

On Saturday, May 15th the Celiac Disease Foundation will be celebrating its 20th anniversary at their annual education conference. Featured speakers at the event will include Dr. Peter Green from Columbia University, Dr. Sheila Crowe and registered dieticians Shelley Case and Anne Lee. For more information about the event and to sign up for tickets, check out this site: http://www.celiac.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=92&Itemid=205.

Furthermore, I have decided to take advantage of the conference’s prime location in Los Angeles and have bought tickets to Disneyland for May 13th and 14th. Their friendliness towards the gluten free community is well known and I look forward to picking up my map of gluten free restaurants at City Hall upon my arrival.

Be sure to check out the site afterwards to hear all about our adventure!

Invite all those you know who fall into one of these 6 categories. Please bring ideas about menu options, food styles, location and food suppliers with you. We will be going over what all a gluten free restaurant will entail, what gluten free means, as well as what needs to be done to get the ball rolling. The meeting will be held on Saturday, February 20th from 3-4pm in the board room at the Corvallis Public Library.

We hope to see you all there!

Summer Camp for GF Kids

GIG is hosting two kid’s camps over the summer- one of which is right here in the North West! The camps operate “as a part of mainstream camping programs… Kids are playing and living in a real world situation, where they must still be aware of what foods are safe and not safe during different activities.” Counselors are trained by GIG staff, leaving parents worry free (or as worry free as a parent can get).  What a great opportunity for kids with celiac disease/gluten intolerance to get away and meet other children with similar lifestyles.

To find out more about GIG Kids Camp West at Camp Sealth, on Vashon Island, WA check out www.gluten.net.

Introduction to Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease

Class is held at the downtown office in Corvallis.
